A handy guide to the ingredients in your beauty products
A
Acetyl Hexapeptide-3/argireline
Often referred to a “Botox in a jar”, this peptide relaxes facial muscles and helps to inhibit muscle contractions.
This in turn reduces the number of wrinkles caused by facial movement.
Alphalipoic Acid
A fatty acid that has potent anti-oxidant qualities to fight free radicals and protect and rejuvenate the skin.
Alpha and Beta Hydroxy Acids
A group of acids that enhance cell renewal, promoting a smoother, healthier-looking skin.  They are usually derived from plants and foods.  The most common forms are lactic acid, glycolic acid, pyruvic acid, tartaric acid, maleic acid and salicylic acid.

C
Co-enzyme Q10
Also known as ubiquinone, this is an anti-oxidant that fights against the damaging effects of the environment.
Copper Peptide
Has rejuvenating properties.

D
DMAE (dimethylaminoethanol)
A chemical produced naturally in the brain, which helps improve muscle tone.

F
Furfuryladenine
This comes from plants.  Tests have shown it can reduce wrinkles, fine lines and other signs of skin ageing.

G
Gaba/Gamma-Amino-Butyric Acid
The body’s natural muscle-relaxing agent, it prompts reduced muscle activity, which causes fine lines and wrinkles to disappear.

L
Lipids
These are fats that make up a natural part of the skin’s barrier.  The most important lipids in the skin are ceramides, sterols sphingolipids and free fatty acids, which protect the skin and - when combined with humectants of glycerin - make an excellent moisturiser.

P
Panthenol
Also known as vitamin B5, Pantehenol attracts moisture to hair and skin making it appear smoother and healthier.

H
Hexapeptide
A non-toxic, non-irritant compound that reduces the excessive stimulation of the facial muscles, relaxing facial tension and reducing the depth of wrinkles.

N
Niacinamide (nicontinamide)
Reduces redness and inflammation and can reduce skin ageing which is a result of artificial sunlight.  Can also improve the appearance of acne.

R
Retin A - retinal
Also known as retinoeic acid, this vitamin A derived acid speeds up cell renewal and collagen production, making skin appear plumber and more youthful.

S
Syn-ake (dipetide diaminobutyroyl) The Real "Age-Killing-Effect"

Like Botox®™ treatments, It blocks neuromuscular contractions which cause facial muscle tension - with the muscle contractions inhibited, wrinkles are visibly reduced.
Superoxide Dismutase (SOD)
A powerful antioxidant that protects the skin against free radical damage and works as a potent skin-protecting agent.  It is available in supplement form and is soon to become available in skincare formulas.

T
Tazarotene
This has recently been found to reverse some of the effects of skin ageing and is a popular skin rejuvenation cream in the USA.  The formula is available in cream form from doctors in the UK via prescription.

V
Vitamin A
Essential for the maintenance of skin, hair, nails and teeth, it also acts as an anti-oxidant and reduces skin ageing by increasing collagen formation.
Vitamin C
Acts as an anti-oxidant, protecting the skin from UV damage.  It also has an important role in the production of Collagen.
